Tools, Techniques and Resources

The following tools, techniques  and resources can be leveraged in our engagement

Team Alignment - a lever for Improved effectiveness

Misalignment happens when people don’t share the same understanding of what they’re working toward, why it matters, or how to get there.  The trouble is alignment gaps are often invisible.

Dan is affiliated with MirrorMirror who have developed a diagnostic tool that allows teams to respond to a set of questions that can help them see there there are gaps in their alignment.  Mirror Mirror combines data-driven insights with guided dialogue to help your team uncover what’s holding them back and take

clear steps forward.

The results are analyzed and presented in a detailed report that scores your team on two key metrics:

  • Effectiveness: How well your team thinks they perform in critical areas.
  • Alignment: How closely team members’ perspectives align.

Together and through facilitation, the team can use a structured dialog process which helps them evolve or resolve issues, encouraging deeper learning and clarity. These conversations surface hidden perspectives, engender robust relationships, and prioritize meaningful actions over superficial consensus.

This process -

  • Engages Team Members: Every voice is heard, fostering trust and stronger connections.
  • Surfaces Key Issues: By regularly reflecting on alignment, teams stay proactive and prepared for change.
  • Builds New Habits: The process embeds skills for navigating challenges and reacting to opportunities.

The Five Dysfunctions of a Team - Facilitation Guide Leadership Coaching, Enhancing Communication and Strategic Alignment

The Five Dysfunctions of a Team

Patrick Lencioni's book is a great read for CEO's, Leaders and Team Members.  The assessment measures  these five dysfunctions within a team  -

  • DYSFUNCTION #1: ABSENCE OF TRUST
The fear of being vulnerable prevents team members from building trust with each other.
  • DYSFUNCTION #2: FEAR OF CONFLICT
The desire to preserve artificial harmony stifles productive ideological conflict within the team.
  • DYSFUNCTION #3: LACK OF COMMITMENT
The lack of clarity and/or buy-in prevents team members from making decisions they stick to.
  • DYSFUNCTION #4: AVOIDANCE OF ACCOUNTABILITY
The need to avoid interpersonal discomfort prevents team members from holding each other accountable for their behaviors and performance.
  • DYSFUNCTION #5: INATTENTION TO RESULTS
The pursuit of individual goals and personal status erodes the team's focus on collective success.

The assessment is suitable for mature teams (always good to do a maintenance check) and for new teams who are establishing their journey in becoming a high performing team.  Dan can help facilitate the results and explore what steps you can take to help you on your journey.

Leadership Coaching, Enhancing Communication and Strategic Alignment

Various Frameworks

Experienced in using and implementing a wide variety of frameworks supporting Digital and Product Transformation -

  • Scrum
  • Kanban
  • SAFe
  • Scrum@Scale
  • Plus tools such as Jira and Mural

Recommendation is to take a pragmatic approach when implementing a framework and first what the goals are and then explore the options and best approach to take.  The above are all good frameworks but the right mindset is also needed when implementing processes and tools.
